My Daily Commute: Sawmill Branch Trail Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ninja Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Driving the same way to and from work every day can get very boring – hitting the same red lights, seeing the same scenery and sometimes even seeing the same fellow commuters. Like (I suspect) many geocachers, I find myself looking around during my commute and spotting locations that would be GREAT for a cache. This series is not designed to be difficult or “new”. Rather, it’s for my entertainment & education – during my commute I can check out these locations and see if anyone is searching, plus I should have no excuse for poorly maintaining the caches!
This cache is an ammo can hidden very close to a seldom used parking spot for the Sawmill Branch Canal Trail. To see a map of the trail, go to www.summerville.sc.us and click on the “Parks and Recreation” link and then “Sawmill Branch Canal Trail”. The parking area is through open gate in the fence near the 6th Street intersection and the Berlin G. Myers parkway. I’ve never seen anyone else parked here, since the paved path is on the other side of the canal, but this cache is almost a “park and grab”, (except for the quick bush-whacking within the last 30 feet).
There is a “Universe of Copernicus” GeoCoin for the FTF. There’s also a large bag of SWAG and a copy of the “Complete Idiots Guide to Geocaching” book for anyone that wants to read it.

4/10/12 UPDATE
The ammo can has been replaced and is full of all kinds of odds-and-ends that I've been adding to my SWAG bag! I moved it about 150 feet to a more concealed spot. I kept the last ammo can about 2 feet off the ground, in the crook of a tree, and I think the additional height may have made it easy to spot from the grass. Hopefully this one will last longer that the first container, which made it about 14 months and saw 45 different trackables. This is how we learn, isn't it?
Also, the "open gate" is no more, as it is padlocked shut. Personally, I just parked in front of the gate and walked around the end of the fence near the bridge.
For those of you reading at home, this cache is NOT along the paved path, but rather on the other side of the water.
Finally, I am bumping up the difficulty rating a point to compensate for the additional hiking and just a bit of extra bush-wacking. Happy caching!

5/11/12 UPDATE - I moved up the difficulty rating to 3.5 stars.
