Geocache Description:

Nice easy cache in an Historic part of the area. Beware of muggles on the sportsground nearby. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO THRU THE FENCE.

This cache is placed in a very historic area. The Bushies have full view of this magnificent house (from there front verandah )that is sitting on the hill nearby. In 1819,retired Naval Surgeon Dr. Charles Throsby was granted 1000acres by Govenor Macquarie in appreciation of his services to the Colony. Dr Throsby later explored the wild, route through the Bong Bong and Wingecaribee and Wollondilly and this is part of the site where he chose to settle. Throsby Park was owned and operated by five generations of the Throsby Family. The house, begun in 1834, reflects the growth of the family, being eventually extended to 27 rooms. Some furniture used by the family is still in the house. The property Charles Throsby established is important as the first grand residence built outside Sydney's Cumberland Plains. As well as the main house there is a series of farm buildings, a flour mill and the original stables. The grounds of Throsby Park are publicaly accessible. Inspections can be arranged by calling National Parks andWildlife .service. You can find out more infomation about Throsby Park by going to Google and then Throsby Park Moss Vale. In 2010 the property was transferred to the Historic Houses Trust of NSW. Former uses : Pastoral property, Guest house/ riding school and summer house of the Govenor. A very interesting place.
