jayjaybee8: With the recent changes around this station I think it's time to archive this one and look at a better placement to highlight it.

Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed near Long Eaton railway station. it is magnetic, and contains only a log, so please bring a pen(cil).

NOTE there is no possible parking adjacent to the cache. Parking is available a short distance away, either in the station car park or on side streets opposite.

The difficulty may be higher than you'd expect, this is because of the amount of pedestrian and motor traffic passing close to the cache site. Ensure your safety and that of any children in your party, especially when coming from the car park on the pavement under the bridge.

The line was originally opened by the Midland Counties Railway in 1839, which shortly joined the North Midland Railway and the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway to form the Midland Railway.

Originally named Sawley Junction, Long Eaton is the fourth railway station of that name. The original Long Eaton stations were further north in the town centre. This station at Sawley Junction opened in 1888, and as the town expanded the low headroom on the bridge has become more of a problem (spot the scrape marks left by traffic that thought they could make it!)

Rail routes run north-south through Long Eaton along the route known as the Midland Main Line, going south to Loughborough, Leicester, Luton and London; and north to Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield.

Cache should be accessible to all, and everyone can enjoy reaching into the unknown when you think you know where it is!!

Congratulations to Ve8 on FTF - you'd think the area would be quiet at that time of night!
