Time for some Dorset cachers to cross over the border for an event. I decided on a change from the usual venue on Poole quay but hopefully it won't put people off attending and maybe some new faces will come as well.
The area
Just down the road from the inn is what used to be RAF Sopley (call sign Starlight). During the second world war it was a ground control intercept radar station. After the war it became the home of Southern Radar and the Joint Air Traffic Control School. It was closed in 1974 and moth balled. In the 1970's it was used briefly by the Household Cavalry during the Queen's Silver Jubilee year and for several years the site acted as a rehabilitation centre for the Vietnamese Boat People. It is now privately owned by several different companies including Wessex fire & rescue service who are a private company that provide fire cover for events such as the Blandford steam fair. The Woolpack is set next to a lovely little stream and is just inside the Hampshire border. There is a large car park adjacent to the inn. Jo, the landlady, has kindly agreed to set aside an area for us and the food is excellent. There is a step to get over to get into the inn but a ramp is available for wheelchair users.
There are 5 new caches going live during the event!!!!!
