Geocache Description:

The history and hobby of model airplanes is one that can be passed down from father to son for generations. It is an exciting hobby that can involve learning the concepts of aerodynamics, how to build, fly, and repair model airplanes.

In the spirit of recycling the Jackson Radio Control Club has worked with the City of Jackson, Michigan to put a closed landfill to good use. The McGill Landfill is the site of the airfield for the Jackson Radio Control Club. At this location, the 70+ club members spend their summer months flying their model airplanes.

The Jackson Radio Control Club has been in the Jackson area for more than fifty (50) years and flies at Pete Dillion Field which is located at the old McGill Landfill. The club was founded by Pete Dillion many years ago and the field is named after him. For more information about the Jackson Radio Control Club please visit the clubs website at www.jacksonrc.com. For more information about the history of model airplanes please visit the website for Academy of Model Aeronautics, AMA at www.modelaircraft.org.

The cache is available during daylight hours and throughout the entire year and should be an easy Park-N-Grab, please no night caching. Once you find the cache (which is located outside of the fenced in area of the flying field), please sign and record your visit to Pete Dillion Field and the Jackson Radio Control Club. The field is located within the fenced in area. If the gate is open, please feel free to enter the enclosed area and follow the drive way to the right, past the building, around the hill, and left up the drive way to visit with the club members. We are always interesting in sharing our hobby with visitors. If the gate is closed, please feel free to come back and join us when the gate is open.

The Jackson Radio Control Club looks forward to your visit and thanks you for your interest in our flying field.

Congratulations to snwbuni for FTF!
