Geocache Description:

FINAL CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES

This is a two-stage multicache that shouldn't be very difficult. At the posted coordinates, you will find a statue of Floyd Bjørnstjerne Olson (1891-1936), the 22nd Governor of Minnesota (1931-1936).

A BIT OF HISTORY

Olson was a member of the Minnesota Farmer-Labor Party, a predecessor to the DFL that we know today. During his three terms as governor, Olson proposed, and the legislature passed, bills that instituted a progressive income tax, created a social security program for the elderly, expanded the state's environmental conservation programs, guaranteed equal pay for women and the right to collective bargaining, and instituted a minimum wage and a system of unemployment insurance. He also fought unsuccessfully for a legislative initiative that would be almost unthinkable today: a bill that would have put Minnesota's electric utilities, iron mines, oil fields, grain elevators, and meatpacking plants under state ownership.

Shortly after Olson died, Highway 55, which was then under construction, was renamed "Floyd B. Olson Memorial Highway." In 2004, the Taxpayers League proposed renaming the highway after President Reagan, despite the facts that President Reagan never lived in Minnesota and Minnesota is the only state he never won. The proposal to rename the highway apparently fizzled out.

THE GEOCACHE

To get the coordinates to the geocache, note the name of the company that supplied the bronze for the statue, which is located on the south side of the statue. Let X equal the number of letters in the company name, not counting spaces or the state in which the company was located. Let Y equal the number of associate sculptors listed on the west side of the statue. Let Z equal X * Y.
