Geocache Description:

Cache is not a posted coordinates.

What you will find at the posted coordinates is a plaque with some information about the springs.

FUQUAY MINERAL SPRINGS

family discovered the mineral spring while plowing farmland along Neil’s Creek in the late 1800's. Although rights to the spring were given to ten men in 1860, no sale of water was made. People did visit the spring to “take the waters” however from that time through the late 1920’s heyday. Because of the belief that mineral springs had medicinal qualities, hotels and boarding houses sprang up surrounding the spring site and along nearby streets to accommodate daily and long term visitors.

Local citizens enjoyed the spring and weekend “dancing” took place in a pavillion located just west of the covered gazebo. Major crowds congregated on the Fourth of July and Easter Monday requiring the town to hire extra police.

The Fuquay Mineral Springs Corporation marketed the water both at the spring and via rail/mail demijohn sales. Hotel guests were provided pitchers of water in their rooms; however, most took several walks across to the spring as social exercises.
