89.3 Gulf FM
This is the new site for Gulf FM and I attended its official openning on the 20th of February 2011.Tune in, you might get a surprise In 1997 a group of people gathered in Moonta to launch a Community FM radio station naming it 89.3 Gulf FM. Coping with the regulatory framework, finding potential sites for a studio, broadcasting tower and equipment consumed the group for much of that year. In March 1998 Gulf FM received its licence to broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. GULF FM broadcasts from studios in Kadina and transmits from a tower situated at Arthurton, a few kilometres south of Kadina. The coverage from the transmitter is within a 50 kilometre radius allowing good coverage over the Yorke Peninsula The station is staffed with unpaid volunteers that represent all phases of broadcasting from on air presenters to technicians, producers and administration. You can thank Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury for this great Classic. It was inspired by Rogers son (Felix) saying "Radio Pooh Pooh" The song was released 23rd January 1984. It spent 9 weeks on the charts and reached number 2 Radio - radio I'd sit alone and watch your light My only friend through teenage nights And everything I had to know I heard it on my radio You gave them all those old time stars Through wars of worlds - invaded by Mars You made 'em laugh - you made 'em cry You made us feel like we could fly Radio So don't become some background noise A backdrop for the girls and boys Who just don't know or just don't care And just complain when you're not there You had your time, you had the power You've yet to have your finest hour Radio - radio All we hear is radio ga ga Radio goo goo Radio ga ga All we hear is radio ga ga Radio blah blah Radio what's new ?
