Geocache Description:

Ladies Walk is a 2Km tree-lined footpath to the South East of Andover offering high-level views over the town.This is just the spot to sit and take in the scenery.

In the 18th century Andover was still a quiet market town with a population of a few thousand. However during this century Andover became a major stopping point on stagecoach routes. Eventually more than 30 stagecoaches passed through the town every day.

In 1785 Andover town council laid out a recreational walk called the Ladies Walk

Originally designated an area for public use in the Andover enclosure Act of 1784/5 it was previously the Mark Way which followed a pre-Roman track. In 1863 121 trees were planted along the walk to commemorate the marriage of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark. Records exist to show who supplied the trees, which species and their location.

The walk is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs and seating is provided along its length. It can get quite muddy in wet weather.

Park at the far end of Old Winton Road and follow the track up the hill. Bear left as you go up the track to find the start of Ladies Walk.
