Chico is very lucky to have a newly developed Bird Watching area
sponsored and developed by our local Audubon Society. The morning
we discovered it, numerous families were enjoying a bit of winter
sunshine walking on the (handicapped accessible) gravel paths, with
little kids, senior citizens, cameras, binoculars, and smiles on
their faces.
As we were exploring the area, we were treated to wonderful
displays of plumage from hawks, red-winged blackbirds, many
waterfowl, flights of Sandhill Cranes and assorted ducks and
geese.
In a geocaching salute to this new treasure, we have placed just
a few caches to get the caching community started. The hike from
the parking coords to the third cache is just short of a half mile.
Don't forget to bring your own pencil.
The facility opens at 7:00 a.m. year-round and from October
through March closes at 7:00 p.m. During summer hours it will
remain open until 9:00 p.m.
Join us in learning more about our avian friends and thanks to
the Altacal Audubon for providing us this treasure.
