Geocache Description:

A cache for the Greater Coachella Snowbird!

From October to March the Coachella Valley is part of a huge migration pattern of Snowbirds. The migration path extends from Northern North America through Mexico. The Greater Snowbird, which frequents the valley so often, has a large rectangular shape with four black feet and is often seen pulling its young behind it.

When first entering the valley the snowbird is very cautious and guarded as it travels the locale pathways. The snowbird is welcomed with honks and waves by the natives as it learns the in and outs of desert living. As the weeks pass the snowbird adapts to desert living and is more than able to honk and wave back to all their new friends.

When the weather reaches the balmy 80’s the snowbird thrives and often is heard to make a chuckling sound when talking to flock members unable to make the trip south. However, directly upon the arrival of temperatures in the 90’s, a snowbird will panic. Quickly gathering all its new nesting materials and return to its migration path escaping the deadly heat.

Thanks snowbirds for visiting the valley and all us locals. Whether you are stopping to visit family and friends or just visiting the area, enjoy your time and come back and see us real soon!!
