Eggstravaganza
A day of chocolate, eggciting entertainment and of course geocaching. We will be hosting a geocaching themed egg hunt with special 'one day' caches set up. There will be something for everyone with an egg hunt for the wee ones and event caches and GPS games for the BIGGER children; and not to mention all this is in addition to the local caches, with some new ones coming soon...!
We will have several activities to take part in, prizes to be won and plenty of chocolate - all in close proximity to a couple of Adnams pubs.
If you are interested then please sign up early. We will be charging £3 per child for registration for the egg hunt (payable in cash on the day). This will help us to cover some of the costs of putting on this eggcellent Easter caching event.
Please sign up by posting a note below letting us know how many children will be attending. Please note that those who sign up prior to the event will be given priority over those that just turn up on the day. Whilst we will make every effort to make it an eggstremely fun day for all, we also cannot arrange for the Easter bunny to drop of the right number of eggs if we don’t have some idea on the number of children planning to take part.
We shall be meeting in the beer garden of the Bell Inn, Walberswick, Suffolk (dogs on leads also welcome!). It will be an 11am meet for registration and instruction with the hunt beginning around 11.30am.
If you are attending then please put this event on your watch list. Please keep checking back for further details.
Practicalities – for those unfamiliar with the area.
• Terrain is buggy and dog friendly although maybe wet or slightly muddy in places so spare shoes might be a plan just in case
• Parking can be found on the river front drive past Bell to find.
• All children taking part must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Areas maybe exposed so warm and waterproof clothes advised (you are at the seaside and it is England so anything can happen!)
We look forward to meeting you all, let the eggstravaganza begin...!
update 09/04/11
Not long now! RedWelly and I are starting to get eggcited. We have been out and bought several large wheelbarrow loads of chocolate and made the final preparations for all the mini games we are planning for the day. We have had some prizes kindly donated by some local businesses and they will be up for grabs on the day. It is worth noting that this event will take place on Walberswick common, we are still meeting at the planned start of the event but this is mostly a gathering point and the plan is to send you (those of you who wish to take part in the Easter events) all out hunting for various mini caches for a few hours then we can meet at a location on the common somewhere around 1430-1500 where we can finish the Easter event hand out some prizes and then those of us who have worked up a thirst can retire back to the pub for a beer or two.
As spring has now fully arrived it is also worth noting that the stinging nettles are on there way back to hound cachers for another season. Redwelly and I will be sending you to the far corners of the common and it would be a good idea to wear appropriate clothing for the terrain. There is also lots gorse and some bramble patches. Feel free to bring picnics or alternatively if you wish to dine out then you can eat at the Bell Inn where we meet or the Anchor which is close by. Both have full menus catering for everyone.
It would also be a good idea to bring your GPSr, pen and paper. If you have a hand held compass then this may be of use during the day. If you do not have a GPSr that you can input co-ords in the field then fear not you can always team up with someone that does. I am unsure if the geocaching app allows this for any smart phone users but I will look into it.
From reading all of the attending logs I roughly estimate that there will be about 100 of you there on the day. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for the weather. See you all very soon. LB RW
Update 18/4/11
Hi all, just one final update for the event. We have finished the final stages of the planning and we are now ready to enjoy ourselves on the day. All of the eggs have been bought and we are just waiting on delivery for a few last items. We have had some prizes donated by some generous local businesses and they will all be up for grabs through the various games we have planned.
I have asked by the Bell if we can avoid parking in the pub carpark as this is reserved for his residents and also the track out the front of the pub is for local residents. I will post some parking co-ords later tonight. To cut down on walking time you can aim to park near to the church or at the cricket pavilion and walk through to the Bell form here.
One final reminder, please bring your GPS and the usual pen, paper also if you have a hand held compass then bring it along. It will be very useful for one of the games.
19/4/11
One last thing, I know you are all big enough to look after yourselves but I do like to worry about you all from time to time. Saturday is looking like it is going to be very hot with temperatures in the mid 20's so please bring the usual sun cream and plenty of water.
Who says I don't care
RedWelly and I wish you a nice week and we look forward to meeting you all on Saturday.
