Progressive Narrative

In fourth grade, I took a creative writing seminar from Shel Silverstein. He had us use this exercise to let go of a particular idea an see where we might end up. 25 kids sat in the shade, in the eastern Washington sun, writing. After a few minutes, we'd pass our page to the next person, read what we were handed, and being adding to it... only to do the same, a few minutes later.
Each author was shocked to read where their story had gone. The chaotic and sometimes nonsensical narratives made us giggle and very very occasionally yielded fantastic results.
Team Princess and I have offered up the first few paragraphs to get the fun started. Again, you are not obligated to contribute, as this should not be considered a requirement to log the find.
The Story
Once upon a time there was a little girl she loved to dress up like a princess. She always wished she could be one but one day she wanted to try to. She got up real early, got dressed, ran outside, and built a castle out of grass, sticks, and rocks. She got her dog and dressed her up like a horse. Her brother was the king, but he hated his pants and his crown.
Her brother, Jerome, despised his crown so desperately he felt it in toes. He walked about in the fancy pants she’d forced him to wear, complaining bitterly and trying to get the feeling out of the tips of his toes. No matter what he did, he couldn’t shake the feeling that his toes were… well… princely. It should be said that her brother was far from royal word or royal deed. He was often referred to as a “bully” or a “jerk.” With a sense of pride in his evil actions, the princely toes were unbearable. When the feeling grew in intensity, he began stomping and pounding his fists on the roof of his sister’s beautiful castle. Her horse barked in disagreement, afraid for the safety of the princess. When Jerome finally pounded hard enough, his hand broke through a branch and he…
screamed, his sister looking on in total shock and awe. At which point she kicked him out of her castle. He insisted he stayed because his parents had told him to watch his little sister, Angela, until they had returned from the grocery store. But Angela made him leave by poking him with pointy sticks and calling him mean names. As soon as Jerome realized how bad it felt to be poked with sticks and called mean names he knew he needed to apologize to his classmates. So he ran down the street and visited a few houses. He was truly sorry and all of the people he visited forgave him. Now Jerome was in the right mindset to perform as Angela’s prince. (and be a good brother) As soon as he apologized and helped rebuild the roof of the castle, he…
