Geocache Description:

Leesylvania’s cache is hidden along the Lee’s Woods Historic Trail overlooking the Potomac River and Neabsco Creek. The trail is partially covered in gravel and the rest is clearly marked, packed earth. Be aware of tree roots crossing the trail. The terrain is hilly and rates at a level of three. The difficulty of locating the cache is level 1. Elevation of the cache is 104 feet.

Leesylvania’s cache interprets the early history of the peninsula the park is situated on. Included in this history is a brief discussion of the Tauxenent Indians who lived here and descriptions of the area written by John Smith during his 1608 voyage. After reading and viewing the area of interpretation please consider the changes that have taken place along the river in the 400 years since Smith’s journey and record your observations about the plant and wildlife you have seen at Leesylvania during your visit.

Leesylvania’s geocache is a small green box. The cache contains a logbook with a brief introduction to one of the aspects of Leesylvania’s history, a pen and journal to share your observations, and a collector’s card. .

This cache is part of the Virginia State Parks 75th Anniversary Geocaching Adventure. Each state park has a cache for this series, each with a unique collector’s card. There are small prizes for finding 5, 10, 20, and ALL of the caches. Most parks require a small parking fee while geocaching. For more information go to: www.virginiaoutdoors.com.
