Geocache Description:

This traditional single cache is located on the Laurel Point Trail.

Westmoreland State Park is one of the six original state parks opened in June 1936. The park was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The project created numerous jobs during a period of great hardship. Most of the roads and trails found in the park were originally dug by hand. The location of this cache will take you to the stone quarry used by the CCC to build several structures throughout the park.

The cache is a regular sized lock-n-lock container that will hold a log book, pen, history of the quarry, a collector’s card, and several optional locations (coordinates included) of some of the structures that were build using stones from the quarry.

This cache was part of the Virginia State Parks 75th Anniversary Geocaching Adventure. This series ended on December 15, 2011, but the park has adopted this cache so it is still active. Most parks require a small parking fee while geocaching and be sure to check out our new series, Virginia State Parks Blooming Adventure for 2012.
