This cache has been set for the 'I Love Geocaching' event taking place on 26th Feb 2011.
It is also part of a series of well caches around Aberdeen - Wells of Bon-Accord.
The above co-ordinates take you to the cache site and not the well itself. Carden House Well is in a car park behind Carden Medical Centre. You will find co-ordinates for the well below.
A dwelling prior to 1809 stood on this site called Carden's Haugh but also called Baillie Brown's House after its owner Robert Brown, Inspector of Taxes who lived there for some 50 years. In 1869 the house was then replaced, or given a face-lift; a new facade and the breadth extended. It was now the home of Henry Cooper, Manufacturer who, with a now stylish and unique property, named it Carden House.
During the conversion to a medical centre, the builders were to attempt a full restoration of the well, but it would not have worked in the middle of what is now a car park. However, a careful preservation has been effected and the well is marked on the ground and capped.
On the wall nearby a plaque has been put in place alongside part of original guard railings from the well. The remainder are held in the Archaeological Department of Aberdeen City Council. Perhaps future owners of the House may decide one day to restore the little Carden House Well.
Photographs below show how the well was before being dismantled.
I have made the clue quite specific due to high degree of stealth required.
Cache is a magnetic nano.
