Manteo Book Nook Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OBXbiker: Hate to see this one go, it was a favorite of mine. Too many changes to the area's geography making replacement difficult. Bookstore has moved down the street and took some of the natural camouflage with it. Appear this one has completed it's run. Will try to develop a replacement one I have recovered from my motorcycle wreck. Thanks to all that visited. Keep hunting.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Simple cache in the downtown area of Manteo, NC. Creative stealth necessary here. Original container washed away by Irene on Aug. 27, 2011.

This would be a park & grap with trackables were it not for three things:
1. Muggles everywhere at all hours
2. Limited parking right at the cache site
3. GPS accuracy drops from 14 feet to 65 feet as you approach the cache.

All three contribute to the 3.5 Overall Difficulty Rating. Asking for help makes it a 0.025 Difficulty.

A Geocacher with any experience at all should still find this one, although no longer in a JIF, but getting it out & back is another story. Please use care that your actions are not observed and that the container camo does not come off.

Welcome to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Cache is in the business area of the Town of Manteo on the eastern side of Roanoke Island overlooking Shallowbag Bay.

Incorporated in 1899 this waterfront community has been the Dare County seat of government since 1870. Nearby attractions include a representative 16th century ship across the bay at Roanoke Island Festival Park and Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse where another cache is hidden within walking distance. Not far north are The Elizabethan Gardens and world famous Waterside Theatre, home to the nation's oldest outdoor symphonic drama, The Lost Colony, which tells the mystery around by Sir Walter Raleigh's 16th century attempt to establish a permanent English settlement in the Virginia Colony.

Original contents are a small log book, pen, book light, a sticky pad pack, and Geocoin NC93CT.

Permission granted for this cache placement.

Congratulation to Wachusett Wolverines for the FTF.
