4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

This cache was released as part of the Third Annual Hills Geocaching Event

You're looking for a bison tube. Do not try and find the cache from the road. The cache can be easily found from the footpath.Parking is available on the eastern side of the bridge. As a side note, I have seen this bridge under 4 meters of water when flood waters from the creek below couldn't be contained within its banks. It's a very rare event so don't expect this cache to go missing any time soon.

Since 1990 the bridge went under twice. Once on the 2nd-3rd of August1990, the bridge went under by about 50cm following some heavy rain and then a flash flood. Box Hill received 108mm in just a few hours. Cattai Creek feeds from Castle Hill and they received 242.2mm of rainfall over the 2nd and 3rd of August 1990.

The second time the bridge went under was on the 9-10th Feb, 1992. It went under by 3-4 meters. Box Hill received 211.6mm over those 2 days with Castle Hill receiving 274.2mm during the same time period.

I have been taking rainfall measurements for the Bureau of Meteorology in Box Hill since 1990. In the first few years I recorded the rainfall manually. In 1998 the BOM installed a weather station at my house. The daily, monthly and yearly rainfall data can be viewed here: Box Hill Rainfall
