This puzzle cache was created to
coincide with a local event. I am sure some of the cachers listed
below will be at the event, but few of them will be any help with
this puzzle.
The background:
Geocaching is a great sport and there are many different numbers
that go along with it. Number of finds, number of DNFs, number of
friends, number of hides, GC number, log number, etc. I think one
of the best numbers is the number of the geocacher, you get to meet
so many and it certainly makes the sport interesting. Of course
puzzles make the sport interesting too.
Some geocachers like solving puzzles, some don’t. Some
geocachers like hiding puzzles, some don’t. I like doing
both. This puzzle involves many different geocachers but please
don’t contact any of them looking for a hint for they
don’t have any advanced knowledge of how to solve this
puzzle.
The Puzzle:
I have met a number of geocachers over the years and would like to
tell you about some of them.
cwren:
Imagine finding a cache in 2000? I can’t but cwren did. They,
by their own admission, are not the fastest cachers out there, but
I do enjoy running into them from time to time. The four of them
make a great geo-family. (Plus the dashers as well)
SCrowe:
I took a trip to Michigan a few years back and ran into this crew.
They are friends with a high school buddy of mine. I tried to get
them to cache a number of times but they were not up for it.
Bushwhack Bob:
What can you say about this guy? He is very intense about two
things: geocaching and high pointing. In both areas he excels, just
check out his numbers. He is a very knowledgeable hiker and a great
guy with whom to go caching.
koneko:
Another great cacher who is high in the rankings of finds according
to www.cacherstats.com. I have had the pleasure of racing for an
FTF with her. And not only has she found a lot of caches, she has
also hidden a number of them. (More than I have.)
Team Spoonhead:
I actually met Team Spoonhead before I was geocaching. The two of
us met at a function in Woburn. After I started geocaching I got a
number of chances to meet him and even go caching together some. He
was a early proponent of puzzle caches.
~Bailey~:
Don’t forget the little squiggly things before and after.
This pair always brighten my day when I get a chance to see them. I
do get unfairly accused of trying to lift his wallet every time. I
am not after money, just a good time.
Macfriends:
I first met this pair when they came to find The Boston Globe cache
I had hidden. I think there were only eight finders before I had to
replace it the first time. If you haven’t met them,
Macfriends are the nicest couple you would ever want to meet.
g-o-cachers:
Long before I met him I knew of g-o-cachers based on my numerous
FTFAGs (First to find after g-o-cachers). He is a world-class
cacher who seemed to never sleep when a FTF was up for grabs. With
out a doubt a great cacher.
phild31:
Here is a cacher who knows what he likes: geocoins. He probably has
seven times as many coins as anyone I know. Phild31 also holds the
distinction of being the only local cacher I know who has found a
cache placed by me in Illinois.
Danvers Duo:
Another caching pair that lights up a room when they show up.
Although I have not had many chances to go caching with them they
are a couple of my favorites with whom to hang and swap
stories.
Bubba Riley:
What can be said about Bubba that has not been said seven times
before? The master of the Middlesex Canal series and by far the
premier puzzler. So unassuming and yet so many layers. Will we ever
be able to peel them all away?
chasandmeg:
I first met this pair when they showed up for my New Years Day
party. How many years ago? Who knows. I have enjoyed the times we
meet headed to a cache as well as the times we meet at an event.
(Especially if there is beer involved.)
Rocking the Goat:
A name recognizable by most in Massachusetts. How many are chasing
the goat? At this point he has eight times the number of caches I
do. And the gap keeps growing. Perhaps some day I will catch up
with him on the trails, not in numbers.
Madmin:
When Madmin appeared on the scene we all wondered who was Madmin. A
bit of a game ensued and rumors spread naming a number of cachers,
myself included. If you don’t know by now who Madmin is, I am
not going to tell here.
Dangermouse3314:
What can I say about this guy? He hit the scene just two years ago
and yet has passed by many other cachers in number of finds.
Certainly no one passes him in enthusiasm. One of those guys who
became and instant friend and I am better for it.
Jeremy:
Although I have never met him, I wanted to include the cacher that
everyone knows at least by name. Although, by his own admission, he
did not invent geocaching he certainly did a lot to make it
accessible to millions worldwide.
findit:
This cacher often refers to himself as the oldest cacher around
because he first registered in December 2000. Although he did not
log his first cache until about seven years later he has still
become a very well known, and respected, cacher in the area.
fismo:
Hello Simon. Your humans are very good cachers and fun to hang
around. Thank you for sharing them with us. To Simon’s
humans, thanks for being such great people with whom to share
caching stories.
BluEyz and Bugsy:
All that can be said about this pair is they are one great team.
They have past the triple K mark in number of finds and put out
great caches including some very tough puzzles and a fun
WhereIGo.
Trail Buzzards:
Another caching pair I took an instant liking to when I first met
them. Excellent puzzlers and brewers, a great combination in my
book. Perhaps some day I will create a puzzle that is hard for them
to solve or a beer that measures up. Perhaps someday.
Team Spoonhead:
I actually met Team Spoonhead before I was geocaching. We met at a
function in Woburn. After I started geocaching I got a number of
chances to meet him and even go caching together some. He was one

BlackstoneVal:
Another cacher high on the stats list. Who has met Val who
doesn’t like him? When I first met him he reminded me of a
cross between my brother and Grisly Adams. He is someone who can
say they cleared a state of geocaches.
Autoteach and Red Lady:
These two are a pair of very nice cachers from California. Although
our paths have just crossed once, I needed to include them in this
puzzle to give a quick shout out.
doublewe:
A fun guy to go caching with anytime. When I first met him he was
so quite I wasn’t sure what to make of him. Having a number
of chances to cache with him and meet up at events I have come to
know he is a great cacher.
Bigrock95:
Number of cachers I met before Bigrock: zero. What is geocaching
all about? If I only had Bigrock to use to answer that question I
would say it is about meeting others and making friendships that
will last a lifetime.
The Waldo's:
If a cache suddenly appears next to you watch out or Mr. Waldo
might run you over racing PetersPack to the cache. A very friendly
cacher who knows how to cache, just check out the stats.
OleSeeker:
When it comes to solving puzzles OleSeeker is in the top three.
When it comes to artistic creativity for hides, again in the top
group. There is no cacher who I would trust more with my friend and
I’m glad to know Ole.
haverood:
A wink and nod to haverood. Always happy to meet on the trails or
at the events. Seems like there is always an adventure or cache to
talk about. Keep on caching.
gw0143:
Another cacher asked me not long ago, “Who is this GW guy who
was FTF?” I replied, “Just some newbie upstart,
don’t worry he won’t be an FTF threat.” Boy was I
wrong. I think his best was seven in one day. Has he past me in
FTFs? No, but I am sure he will one day soon. A good guy for
caching.
Froedo Bagginz:
Another newbie who is showing strong caching skills. The stats
don’t lie. A good guy to go caching with and talk to at
events. Also an FTF threat for caches as far south as Key West,
Florida.
Notes:
You can divide the geocachers into two groups, the northerners and
the westerners. (Gee, I wonder why?) The first 15 are northerners
and the last 15 are westerners. The specific order is not totally
random.
If I did not mention you in the list please don’t feel
offended, I cold only use a certain number for the puzzle and they
had to fit together just right. A big shout out to the rest of you!
