Geocache Description:

Fairly large micro - a bit larger than two 35 mm film canisters.

Hi! I'm Junior. You'll probably notice if you look at the picture on my profile that I'm a bear! I've gone lots of places during my life and most recently found the sport of geocaching. I LOOOOOOVE GEOCACHING! Almost more than finding caches (cause sometimes I can't find 'em and it makes me feel stupid) I like to place them. I plan on placing a series of micros (cause they're like me - you know junior) and geostations (caches of normal size - I like those because I also LOOOOOOVE travel bugs!)

This is the first micro in my series. I have placed it at a location I've driven by a million times. I wanted to make sure that at least some of my caches were easy for truck drivers to get to. I like truck drivers - they sometimes honk their horns at me!!!! This location also has lots of history. This cache is located on the site of the Cahokia Downs Horse Racing Track.

Cahokia Downs was an American horse racing track located on Highway 15 near the town of Alorton, St. Clair County, Illinois. Run by the East St. Louis Jockey Club, the facility opened in 1954 and hosted both Standardbred harness racing and Thoroughbred flat racing events.

A fire on February 24, 1976 in the stables killed 63 horses.

On October 18, 1978, jockey David Gall became the first rider in United States Thoroughbred horse racing to win eight races on a single racecard.

In October of 1979 the Illinois Racing Commission refused to authorize any 1980 racing dates for Cahokia Downs and on April 2, 1980 the business filed for bankruptcy. The track never reopened. - from Wikipedia
