Gent : Kreeser
Het Prinsenhof was een gigantisch groot kasteel (13de
eeuw). Het telde meer dan 300 kamers, had een lusthof, vijvers en
een dierentuin. Vanaf het midden van de 17de eeuw verloor het
kasteel aan belang. Delen ervan werden verkocht. In de 18de eeuw
was er zelfs een suikerraffinaderij in gevestigd. Aftakeling en een
brand verwoestten het kasteel. Enkel deze noordelijke toegangspoort
"De Donkere Poort" en wat muren bleven overeind.
Het standbeeld is een "Kreeser"(=roepers), een Gentse
stroppendrager .
"Het
Prinsenhof" was a gigantic castle(13th century). It consisted of
more than 300 rooms, had a pleasure garden, ponds and a zoo.From
the mid 17th
century the castle lost its importance. Parts of it were sold. In
the 18th century there was even a sugar refinery located. Decay and
a fire destroyed
the castle. Only the northern gateway "The Dark gate" and some
walls remained intact.
The statue is a "Kreeser" (shouters, big mouths), a Ghent
stroppendrager( man from Ghent with a rope around his
nek).

die je laat zien hoe groot en mooi dit kasteel ooit
was.

De Gentse stroppendrager, in
zijn hemd gezet,
maar koppig zoals een échte Gentenaar is,
maakt zijn hand op zijn rug een "foert" gebaar.
