Carrowdore was once renowned for the now extinct Carrowdore 100 motorcycle Road Race which was started in 1927. It consisted of a 5½ mile road circuit which started on the Greyabbey to Millisle Road and continued down the coast road. After World War II, the Tourist Trophy race moved to Dundrod, but after a couple of years the race moved back to Carrowdore, with the start in the village and the course running to just outside Greyabbey and back to Carrowdore. The last race to be held at Carrowdore was in 2000.
It is just a shame that the castle is now a modern build which is private. It is located on a beautiful site. Head for the 'old' entrance way to the castle. It is an old arch and wall.
There is a space to park in front of the gate, or go on around the corner. It is not a very busy road, but nevertheless, please be careful for small children. It is on a bend. The terrain is a little rough, so is not accessible by wheelchair.
The cache is a cammo'd tube approximatly 5" long. If you go at night, please take a torch and park with consideration.
