Geocache Description:

Join us for the Spring 2011 Bread and Cheese Creek CITO from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 7599 Durwood Road, Dundalk, Maryland

Clean Bread and Cheese Creek, a local nonprofit dedicated to cleaning up an extremely polluted local waterway, is holding a spring cleanup event in the Berkshire area of Dundalk. Last fall, CCBC Geocachers brought a dozen geocachers from the college and the surrounding community to join the 100+ volunteers who showed up to clean a stretch of the creek on the other side of Merritt Blvd. Literally tons of trash were taken from just a small segment of the creek. After a long winter of neglect and littering, there's sure to be plenty more work for us.

Terrain is rated at a five because in some instances, cachers may need hip waders to navigate the muddy waters of the creek. The organizers of the event have some such gear to loan, but bringing your own if you have it would be helpful. There are other tasks to help with such as running water down to the volunteers, helping at the check-in table, etc., so even if you have physical limitations, you can be a part of this event.

In the past, cachers have loaned their 4x4 vehicles with winches, and volunteers have brought boats, ATVs, and anything that might help remove shopping carts, old washing machines, tires, and a wide variety of very heavy debris from deep mud. If you have any such equipment to loan, please bring it out.

Last fall, the CCBC Geocachers ran a 50/50 raffle to help support the cleanup, and we'll do that again this spring with help from students in Professor Walsh's Mass Communications 111 class. Tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5. We'll also have an event log at the raffle table. Be generous with your time and your money and help support this very worthy cause.
