Over the years The Great North Road has changed it's route numerous
times, this cache is placed along the most recent one to be
abandoned.
There is a FTF prize in this cache of an unregistered Travel Bug
and while it is not a requirement of taking it I would request that
if you do FTF and take the bug you create a new cache of similar
size to this one as a thank you.
Not so long ago you would have had to take your life in your hands
to walk along this bit of tarmac.
HGVs, Coaches, Vans and Cars all streamed past this point at high
speed but today it is a totally different picture, this northbound
section is a separate route for walking and cycling with the old
central reservation having been built up to hide what is left of
the old southbound carriageway which is now a 2 way single road. As
usual Mother Nature is slowly reclaiming what she used to own and
the old road is slowly becoming more over grown. The cache is a
fairly easy find and as such no hints are given at this time, my
GPOS showed accuracy of around 10 - 15 ft at the time I set the
cache and the co-ords have been averaged out over several visits so
I am pretty sure you will find this one fine.
