"Dairy from my Queens"
This famous line is what started the whole thing. Across the street from where you are standing is the site of the very first Dairy Queen store. As you can see it is no long in operation. This picture to the right will help you locate which building it was.
The soft serve formula was first developed in 1938 by John Fremont "Grandpa" McCullough, his son Alex McCullough, and Ronald Baker. They convinced friend and customer Herb Noble to offer the product in his ice cream store in Kankakee, Illinois. John had always called his cows, "His Queens". On the first day of sales, Noble dished out more than 1,600 servings of the new dessert within two hours. Noble and the McCulloughs went on to open the first Dairy Queen store on June 22, 1940 right across the street.
