The well formed tracks in this area are within the confines of Centennial Reserve and are the result of work by a group of dedicated people to create mountain biking tracks. Started in 2008; they are a work-in-progress as the existing tracks are enhanced and new ones created.
There is an uphill track which starts from the bend at the Northernmost point of Darlington Rd (S41 degrees 18.037 W174 degrees 49.601) and ends at the Miramar Water Towers just down from the old Mt Crawford prison. The downhill track (very steep – not suitable for walking) starts from the Maupuia water towers and ends on Miramar North Rd, near David Farrington Park the home of Miramar Rangers football club.
An addition to the Miramar bike park is a kids track which is a gentle 2kms around the Miramar reservoir.
The closeness to Mt Crawford Prison gave the inspiration for the names of the mountain bike tracks in this park (Conviction for the uphill track, Bootleg for the connecting sidle, and Jail Break for the downhill)
There are several ways to get to this cache but the quickest is from the parking waypoint listed and should take less than 10 minutes to get to the final location.
The track you will walk along is a dual purpose track so is used by both mountain bikers and walkers. It’s usually only used as an uphill track by bikers so bikes should not be traveling at speed on this part of the track.
The cache is well camouflaged and blends into it's surroundings perfectly.
