Geocache Description:

"Gattari" is a old way of mechanization of milling by using a natural river water. The cache is hidden just nearby this wonderful tool.

A water mill technology called "Gattari" used to be a milling system at village level northern part of Japan for centuries. The mill was used to thresh and polish rice and other grains for the local agricultural community. “Gattari” means sound of a pounding in a mortar and the system is worked by water like a “see-saw”. In old time, each households this area has Gattari, but no one stop using it after electricity came to this village. In 21st century, villagers re-build the system again to remind them their traditional culture and prides. Please take a look the picture of hint and do not break any part of this building and area.

この「ガッタリ」と呼ばれる製粉技術は日本の北部ではよく見られるものでした。このガッタリを使って、かつては精米やその他の穀物を製粉にしたものです。ガッタリというのはその音から来ています。是非この自然を使った不思議かつ楽しい製粉機を見てください。かつてこの地域は各農家がこのガッタリをもっていたようですが、電化が進み、消滅してしまいました。しかし、21世紀にはいって、またこの地でガッタリが復活して、この地の人々の知恵と自信を再確認させることに貢献しているようです。キャッシュはこのガッタリの近くにあります。歴史的な建造物なので、ヒントの写真を参考にして、あまり無理な探し方はしないように注意してください。
