Thalatta Lock Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
When you are not on Miami Beach, it's hard to find a public place where you can be steps away from the shoreline. This is one of those places. Serene and beautiful, this cache is meant to bring people to a new public park in Palmetto Bay.
HISTORICAL NOTE! When you stand at the spot of the cache, you are just east of where the 105-foot Seaward Explorer was deposited during Hurricane Andrew. https://www.miamihal.com/hals-blog/2012/8/19/hurricane-andrew-perspective-from-max-mayfield.html
Thalatta Park is a brand new park opened on February 13, 2011. Bought and renovated by the Village of Palmetto Bay, this park was built to "put the Bay in Palmetto Bay".
The hours of public access to this park are somewhat limited because the place can be rented out for private parties and events.
THALATTA PUBLIC HOURS: Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm; Weekends, 8am-5pm. More information is also available on an internal "Parks" page: https://www.palmettobay-fl.gov/281/Thalatta-Estate-Park
This is a BEAUTIFUL place to visit and enjoy. There are public restrooms, direct parking and a nice walking path.
