Geocache Description:

This is a short walk from where the National Park Visitor Centre was. Access is via a track all the way apart from the last 5m. To find the track when you head reach the end of National Park Rd. You will need to park at the intersection where 1 rd goes to the left towards Mt Sugarloaf and the other heads towards Mason Falls. The track starts at the end of the grassed area towards Mason Falls.

On the Monday, I was evacuated again, but they sent me through Kinglake. So I came for a look here. There was lines of burnt out cars that belonged to fire fighters. Many of them like emergency services workers all over the place had also lost homes and in some cases loved ones.

I wanted a cache that could be used not as a memorial but to pay tribute to all the good things that came out of this horrendous event.

I thought this area would be more muggle proof then near a fire station and it is close to a location where people congregated for the fire fight.

After what I had seen on the saturday the fact that anybody would be out their trying to fight this fire and doing what they could to protect their communities is phenomenal. But it is also a natural part of the human spirit which is phenomenal. Some of these people where critisized. This disgusted me. But I got a very early taste of what the Royal Commission was going to be like having spent time in helping them prepare. I was asked who I blamed for the deaths and I responded no one. I never heard from them again. I have since gained information that changes this but the blame is never aimed at an individual See Geocache Failed Technology. I always believed more time should have been devoted on what went right.

I have never learnt how I wanted to write this or express it in my feelings - any suggestions would be appreciated.... The dangers of bushfire are well etched into the Australian Psyche and the fact that on a day that had fire dangers far beyond anything experienced. The losses could have been so much greater but thanks to some phenomenal efforts they where not. However you also need to respect and remember what was lost and learn from it.

The coming together of Australians in support of those affected was also phenomenal.

The people who dropped everything to help was phenomenal.

I hope that in doing this cache you will pay tribute to all the phenomenal things that where done during this horrendous time.

*****There are some useful clues around here for the multi-cache "So Close" apart from what is written on the inside of the lid.*****
