元和2年（1616）、赤塚町、山口町周辺の人々が相談してこの地に古くからあった神明社を氏神として尊崇することになり、尾張藩初代藩主徳川義直公が寛永5年（1628）、名古屋城下の発展に伴い根本的に再建し、赤塚神明社として市民に親しまれています。
