Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden at middle of Oosambashi, which is homeport of Japanese state of ship Asuka II. Please return the cache exactly as it was.

Asuka II is the biggest luxary liner in Japan, which has 240.96m length and 50,142t displacement. Until Asuka II went into service in 2006, Asuka (1991-2006, 192.815m, 28,856t) had been a biggest one.

Oosambashi is designed to dock such big ships, but recent big ship exceeds the height of Yokohama Bay bridge (55m height, designed to pass RMS QE2), so recent bigger ship such as Queen Mary docks at other local ports in Japan, or inconvenient cargo peer here in Yokohama.

Oosambashi is one the most famous and historical peer in Japan, but hadn't been having no ship of which homeport is Yokohama. In 2005, Yokohama City offered to NYK Nihon Yuusen Co., the owner of Asuka/Asuka II, and accepted. You can often see she returns and rests at this homeport. キャッシュは、日本を代表する豪華客船『飛鳥II』の母港である、横浜大さん橋の中程にあります。キャッシュは正確に元通りに戻して下さい。

飛鳥IIは日本最大の豪華客船で、長さ240.96m、排水量50,142tを誇ります。飛鳥IIが2006年に就航するまで、先代の飛鳥 (1991-2006年、192.815m、28,856t) が最大でした。

大さん橋は大型客船が入港できるように設計されていますが、最近の大型客船は高さが横浜ベイブリッジ (海面上55m、これはクイーンエリザベスIIが入港できるように設計されたと言われています) を超える場合があり、例えばクイーンメリー号などは他の日本の港や、横浜の不便な場所にある貨物用の埠頭に着岸を余儀なくされています。

大さん橋は歴史的にみても、日本の最重要旅客ターミナルであることは間違いありません。しかし、ここしばらくは横浜港を母港とする客船がありませんでした。2005年に横浜市が飛鳥・飛鳥IIのオーナーである日本郵船に打診し、横浜を母港とすることが決まりました。運が良ければ、キャッシュの場所から飛鳥IIが停泊しているのを見ることができるでしょう。もしいなければ、Google satellite view を見てみて下さい。なんと飛鳥IIが停泊しています (2012. 7現在)。
