The Rebel Weed cache has 5 stops along this multi-cache route, all located in Staunton River Battlefield State Park. Finding the cache requires the use of the Edgewood Nature trail system. The trail is accessible to hikers only. The terrain is fairly flat with the occasional slight incline and down slope. This cache will be about a 0.5 - .75 mile hike, which will loop back around toward the beginning.
At this historic site, a ragtag group of Confederate old men and young boys beat the odds and held off an assault by 5,000 Union cavalry soldiers on a bridge of strategic importance to General Lee’s army, then under siege in Petersburg.
The caches are regular sized lock-n-lock containers and are hidden by limbs, rocks and natural cover. This multi-cache contains interesting facts, clues and hints to help solve the final coordinates as well as information on how to get to the next cache. The final cache will contain a log book, 75th Anniversary collector cards and other secret items.
This cache was part of the 2011 Virginia State Parks 75th Anniversary Geocaching Adventure. This series ended on December 15, 2011. However, the park has taken over this cache so it is still active. Rewards are no longer available for this cache, but we will be launching the Virginia State Park Blooming Adventure in March 2012.
