Geocache Description:

IF SOMEBODY COULD PUT A FRESH PIECE OF PAPER IN THE TUBE I WOULD BE MOST GRATEFUL AS I LIVE FAR SOUTH OF THE BORDER!

The original containers was a small "clip 'n lock" in a damp, mossy location that would please Signal the Frog but this is worse for wear (acc to PonderingAlong) and I will remove it in February if nobody cares to do this before my visit. I had already placed a new vitamin tube and log in the proper hide (which was the crevice on the left!) when I visited in 2014 and this is now the proper cache.

Tom a' Ghrianain is Gaelic for "Hill of the Sun" and on the top of this is Signal Rock, a great viewpoint which according to myth may have been where the signal was given to start the massacre of 13 Feb 1692. However as the information board's nearby indicate there is little evidence for this and it is much more likely a spot where people came to worship the sun and other gods in pre-Christian times.

Alas the trees have grown a lot since the rock was used as a lookout post and thet need cutting back for the views to become truly great again.

You can easily reach Signal Rock along good paths through National Trust for Scotland woodland, although the signs indicate that the rock is just outside this area, which is protected by deer fences.
There are uneven stone steps up the rear of the rock and the cache, a green tube with logbook and pencil, is near there.

This cache contains a virtual TB "SIGNAL" - the cuddly geocaching mascot. It is there for you to discover if you wish but also feel free to grab it from here or anywhere / anyone and drop it off (virtually) in any cache close to your home position or your favourite cache. SIGNAL would like to see where you all come from or visit the world's best caches.
