APRIL IS CITO MONTH AND THE WSGA IS LOOKING FOR MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS TO GET OUT AND GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY!
This CITO is to benefit The City of Bellevue Parks Department who is putting on their annual Arbor Day Volunteer Event. This year the City is planning Arbor Day events in and around the Botanical Gardens in Bellevue. There will be work going on at the gardens but also areas around the gardens as well. Currently the Bellevue Parks Department is getting together a list of jobs and will be assigning jobs based upon the size of the groups who sign up for the Arbor Day Event. At the present time, I do not know where our work party will be or what we will be doing. I will know that information around 4/1/11. What I do know is:
- THE EVENT WILL BE ON SATURDAY APRIL 16, 2011
- TIME: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM (Folks will need to assemble around 8:30 AM for sign in). WE WILL MEET IN THE NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO THE BOTANICAL GARDENS. LOOK FOR ME WEARING A WSGA HAT. I WILL HAVE THE WAIVER FORMS WHICH WILL ACT AS THE SIGN IN LOG.
- THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT, DRESS ACCORDINGLY. TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED, YOU MIGHT WANT TO BRING YOUR OWN GLOVES.
- OUR WORK WILL CONSIST OF TREE/BUSH PLANTING.
- THE LOCATION OF THE EVENT WILL BE NEAR THE BOTANICAL GARDENS IN BELLEVUE.
- PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A T-SHIRT COURTESY OF THE CITY OF BELLEVUE
- AT THE END OF THE WORK (AROUND NOON) THE CITY WILL HAVE A TREE PLANTING CEREMONY AND HOT FOOD.
- THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR THIS EVENT IS NOON ON FRIDAY APRIL 1ST. Anyone who signs up after that date, will not get a T-shirt since the sizes are will be sent with the head count.
I would like folks that want to participate in this event, to log a "will attend" log and indicate the following in your post:
- THE NUMBER OF CACHERS IN YOUR PARTY
- THE T-SHIRT SIZES OF ALL CACHERS IN YOUR PARTY
My contact will then get back with me on exactly where and what they want us to do when I forward the head count and complete the application form.ONCE I HEAR BACK FROM THE CITY AS TO WHAT OUR JOB WILL BE, I WILL BE UPDATING THIS CACHE PAGE. IF YOU DECIDE YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, PLEASE BOOKMARK THIS PAGE SO THAT YOU CAN KEEP UP TO DATE ON WHERE WE WILL ULTIMATE MEET FOR THE EVENT. FOR THE PURPOSES OF GETTING THIS PAGE UP, THE COORDINATES WILL BE SET AT THE BELLEVUE BOTANICAL GARDENS.
After the event, I will hold a raffle for folks who participated in this event. When you sign in for the event, you will receive one raffle ticket. The items raffled off will consist of CITO coins (I have two coins that I specifically purchased for the event), some WSGA swag and a couple of cache containers.
So come on out and give back to the community by helping out a local park. Get a nifty CITO event icon to add to your collection, get some food and may be even win a raffle item!
I look forward to seeing you there!
3/31/11 UPDATE! I ran into Christine at COB parks today while at COB meeting. I know what we will be doing for the CITO. The city will have us planting about 60 trees for the event. WE WILL ALL NEED TO MEET AT THE BOTANICAL GARDENS! DO NOT PARK AT THE GARDENS PARKING LOT. This will be a big event and the city asks that we park across the street OR at Wilburton park just down the hill from the botanical gardens. I will put up parking coordinates. IF YOU HAVE A SHOVEL AND GLOVES, I WOULD BRING THESE ALONG since there will be some digging going on. The city will provide some equipment for this event. Additional shovels will be appreciated. As Christine put to me today, we will be planting a "small forest" so do plan accordingly. We will gather in the parking lot near he entrances to the Botanical Gardens. I will have my WSGA hat on and CITO shirt. Look for me there. I have submitted the paperwork and the T-shirt sizes to Christine. SO future CITO attendees may not get a shirt.
4/13/11 UPDATE! I got a call today from Bellevue's own TV production folks. They plan to have their TV crew at the Arbor Day event filming a group planting trees and they chose our group to film! They will take footage of us planting trees and will interview a couple of folks. Please let me know if you do not want to be filmed and I will advise BTV to edit their footage accordingly. The footage will be edited down to about 2 -3 minutes and will run during the month of May on BTV which is also picked up by neighboring cities like Redmond. Also, BTV will be uploading YouTube footage of our event as well. This is an opportunity for the WSGA to get exposure for the club. So if you have any WSGA garb, where it during the CITO event! I have made some changes to this event page. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the Botanical Gardens. There will be forms to sign which will act at the sign in sheet. I will have a couple of clipboards handy for folks to complete wavier forms. We will then proceed down to the tables and get our meal tickets and T-shirts. We will also meet our project leader in the same area. From there, our leader will take us to where we will be working.
| This event is sponsored by the Puget Sound Chapter of the Washington State Geocaching Association. If you are a geocacher in the state of Washington, please consider joining WSGA. See the WSGA website for details.
