'New' Junction 5 Surprise! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

This Cache is replace the old 'Junction 5 surprise' which was muggled or washed away recently.

This new cache is no longer a cache and dash. It will take you slightly longer but all parts of this are still in the services grounds and still fairly easy.

You may need some tweezers for part of this.

Hopefully this new cache will last a little longer and i hope you enjoy.

The published co-ords will take you to the 1st part of the Cache. Use the Hint if you need help finding it. Once found this will give you a clue to the 2nd part of the cache which will in turn revel the co-ords of the Final cache resting place.

The M18 runs in a north east/south west direction from junction 32 of the M1 motorway to junction 35 of the M62 motorway. It passes east of Rotherham, southeast of Doncaster and Armthorpe, and west of Thorne. It meets the A1(M) at junction 2 (A1(M) junction 35)--known as the Wadworth Interchange--and the M180 motorway at junction 5.

Much of the M18 is a two lane dual carriageway, and carries relatively low volumes of traffic. However, the section linking the M1 and A1(M) is much busier and has three lanes in each direction. It then passes over the impressive Wadworth Viaduct. To the north it then crosses the East Coast Main Line, and a large colliery can be seen to the south at Rossington.
History

* Junction 1 to Junction 2 opened in 1967
* Junction 5 to Junction 6 opened in 1972
* Junction 6 to Junction 7 opened in 1975
* Junction 4 to Junction 5 opened in 1977
* Junction 2 to Junction 4 opened in 1979

The M18 was originally to be part of the M1, but it was decided to route the M1 towards Leeds instead of Doncaster, and the routing of what would have been the M1 east of Sheffield became the M18.
