The Bedford Heritage Trail is in the first phase of planning for a larger trail to link the Bedford Springs Resort, Ft. Bedford Park, and Old Bedford Village with a pedestrian/bicycle oriented trail. Until the larger project is complete, the Bedford Heritage Trail invites visitors to explore historic buildings and places in the downtown Bedford area either by walking or biking a 1.3 mile loop. The trail will use the Ft. Bedford flag emblem (shown above)on signs and sidewalk markings for visitors to follow.
Travelers stopping in Bedford, PA have long enjoyed visiting the historic and educational Fort Bedford Museum. Since 1958, 200 years after the original fort was erected by the British, the museum stands near the site of the original Fort Bedford. This cache is outside the museum since the fort is closed seasonally.
Seasonal museum hours:www.FortBedfordMeseum.org Parking is available at the waterfront park just below the museum, where you will also find picnic tables and a small playground. There is also a nice cozy picnic area behind (uphill from) the fort that is not visible from the road.
