WWFM VIII

June 4th. 11:00-11:15 a.m.
Mark your calendars.

This is your opportunity to make world-wide history (in fifteen minutes) that you won't want to miss.

~~PRELIMINARY INFORMATION~~
This event is a "Flash Mob" event, a gathering of geocachers, a mere 15 minutes long!

To claim the event, you must be present and sign the event banner during this time. If you are not present to sign the event banner within the alloted time, you will not be allowed to log that you Attended the event.

"WWFM" stands for the World Wide Flash Mob event:

Hundreds of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (non-geocachers) to geocaching.

You've heard of MEGA-EVENTS...

This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways.
Sort of like a MICRO-EVENT.

Come be part of this historic experience!
The event will begin precisely at 11:00 a.m. on June 4, 2011 and will last PRECISELY fifteen minutes.

EVENT DETAILS
  • There should be plenty of parking but, prior to the official start of the event, you must pretend you are a non-cacher, and to act like you don't know any of the other geocachers present. Ramble about, look inconspicuous, enjoy the park and/or the scenery, etc.
  • At 10:59 a.m. - Begin to make your way to the designated event coordinates shown above. Keep acting like you know no one.
  • 11:00 a.m. - At exactly 11:00 a.m. as determined by the GPS clock, we will converge at Ground Zero for the official start of the Flash Mob event. You must sign the event banner at this time. Then mingle, socialize, and chat with your fellow cachers.
  • 11:10 a.m. - At exactly 11:10 a.m. assemble for a group photo of our local WWFM VIII cachers with our Alien Nation gear and/or accessories of choice. After the photo briefly chat, mingle, and socialize briefly.
  • 11:14 a.m. - One minute warning is called. Clean up and prepare to leave.
  • 11:15 - LEAVE the area immediately! Go enjoy some Saturday caching! Log entries will be sealed and closed. If you missed the signing and the photo, you missed the event.
THE END.

The first Flash Mob Cache Event was hosted by iTrax and FoxTail (of PodCacher fame) on May 20 2007 in San Diego. There were around 20 coordinated events.

WWFM II – Nov 2007 – 4400 attendees at 83 events in 9 countries

WWFM III – May 2008 – almost 8000 attendees at 163 events in 15 countries

WWFM IV – Nov 2008 – 7400 people at 154 events in 20 countries

WWFM V – May 2009 – over 7000 people at 154 events in 20 countries

WWFM VI – Nov 2009 – almost 7000 people at 152 events in 21 countries

WWFM VII – May 2010 – almost 6000 people at 139 events in 19 countries.

One of the aims of the WWFM events is to have geocaching groups around the world assembling at the same time. Events for this eighth edition have been scheduled to begin at the local equivalent of 1 p.m. Eastern. (For example, 11 a.m. in Lone Tree is 10 a.m. in California is 7 p.m. in Zurich.) Come on down and join thousands of geocachers around the world!

In your "Will Attend" log please post the projected number in your group and, if you'd like, which "Alien" contingent you'll be supporting.

Since we'll all be arriving precisely @ the same time, FTF honors will be awarded to All Who Attend!!!
