Geocache Description:

This cache was originally set by Team Incredible as part of the Haggis and Penguin event on 24th-26th July 2009. The cache was archived on 14th February 2011, due to maintenance problems. We have permission from Team Incredible to re-activate this cache (as local geocachers).

Cache is placed on the road from the North down and over the border. Team Incredible spotted this as they drove post and placed the original cache (which had to be replaced as totally water damaged). Muggle drivers are usually in evidence, so stealth may be required. The new cache is also a small cache, please bring your own pen.

We are investigating what the significance of the Spiky Post is - have been into the library, asked at Jedburgh tourist board and asked a few Jetthart locals but so far no-one has come up with a definitive answer. We will post the answer if we get one. Very close to the cache site is a famous local landmark - the Capon Tree - the last remaining tree from the Jed forest. During the excellent Jethart festival in July (one of a series of local borders common ridings) the Callant stops here to mark the spot. The Spiky Post does not however appear to be related to the Capon Tree but may be related to Hutton's Unconformity - a geological phenomena discovered by a local scientist.
