Geocache Description:

A cache to commemorate an event here on February 4, 1987.

***SPOILER***DON'T LOOK AT THE PHOTO GALLERY!***

According to the guys at the tire shop (thanks for the information Greg!), this tree was planted as a memorial to John and Lori Rainwater, who were brutally slain nearby in 1987. I did a little research into this topic and found out how an event like this rocked the community of Atascadero. Current blogs make clear that many residents are still angry about the legal mess that came afterward and that the murderer Dennis Duane Webb has not been dealt with already. The area where the tire shop is now, used to be a small motel with 14 rooms. See the related web page for more information, if you dare (the account is quite graphic and not for the faint-of-heart).

I discovered this bit of local history by having some work done here on the Cache-Mobile; all those caching runs on back roads can take their toll on tires and car parts!

NOTE TO ALL WHO SEEK THIS CACHE: I HAVE EXPLICIT PERMISSION FROM THE TIRE SHOP TO PLACE A CACHE HERE AND THEY WELCOME GEOCACHERS. They were the ones who encouraged me to put a cache here, and I happily took the suggestion. Please try to come here during business hours (Mon-Sat 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM) if possible.

The cache itself is a custom scrip bottle with camo and attachment device I built last night after work. Cachers of shorter stature might need a little help.

Howdy Kids! And the cat goes "Meow" and the cow goes "Moo" and the flat tire goes "Lollop Lollop".....

Happy Caching!
