This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

This is a small (4x6) waterproof container hidden along the Shore Trail. Space suitable for up to 5 or 6 GCs. No need to climb on rocks or poke around inside hollowed out logs to find.

Congrats to grschmid on FTF.

Yes, there is a certain little lighthouse across the river. But long before this lighthouse rose to prominence, there was Burdett's Landing from which ran a pre-revolutionary war ferry to what is now Manhattan. Burdett's Landing lies a short distance to the south within the Edgewater Colony. On the bluff above the cache site lies the revolutionary war historic site Fort Lee (within what is now the Fort Lee Historic Park). It was from this vantage point that General Washington surveyed the fleet movements along the Hudson River to the south as the revolutionary war began. It was also from here on November 16, 1776, after rowing from Burdett's Landing to meet mid-river with his generals from New York, that General Washington watched the battle for New York taking place across the river.
