Geocache Description:

This location marks the site of the Molly Pitcher Spring. History tells us the tale of Molly Pitcher, born Mary Ludwig, who in June 1778 during the Battle of Monmouth attended to the Revolutionary soldiers, who battled both British gunfire as well as 100 degree heat, by bringing them water.

Molly’s husband, William Hays, manned a cannon nearby. At sometime during the battle William collapsed from either a wound or heat exhaustion and was carried off the battlefield. History tells us Molly took his place at the cannon. It is alleged at one point a British musket ball or cannon ball flew between her legs and tore off the bottom of her skirt. Molly supposedly said, “Well, that could have been worse,” and went back to loading the cannon.

Although they have nothing to do with Molly Pitcher I started this cache with a few of my favorite hand tied flies I use for fly fishing the local waters. Some are for freshwater, some are for saltwater. Be careful of the hooks!
