Geocache Description:

UPDATE 4-29-11 PLEASE NOTE: THE WOODEN BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER FOR THE TRAIL ACROSS FROM THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED. ADDITIONAL TRAILHEADS CAN BE FOUND OFF DIAMOND HILL RD. AND TO THE LEFT OF THE FIREHOUSE ON UMPAWAUG RD. In the true geocaching spirit of Earth Day, I'm hoping my fellow geocachers will help join me for a simple clean up at one of my childhood spots.

Please let me know if you can volunteer a pick up truck to bring what we collect to the Elementary School on Lonetown Rd., to help the Town of Redding build Mount Trashmore at the school, by 4PM. The CITO will be 11AM to 3-3:30PM. With the trash delivered to the Elementary School by 4PM. I want to clean up the trailhead at the Saugatuck Falls Natural Area, and the roadside in front of, and along John Read Middle School, and perhaps down to the Mark Twain Library. The Town of Redding will supply vests, bags and gloves. We'll need a volunteer with a pick up truck to bring what we collect to the town Green before 4PM. We will meet in the John Read Middle School parking lot at 11AM and work to 3PM. This will give us time to also find some caches in this beautiful rural town, and the town will be providing some FTF swag, which I'll pull names out of a CITO bag or something to pass out. Please bring your own snacks, sandwich, and beverage. I will supply water, and recycle the bottles. It's a simple clean up, going back to simpler times. Now that the snow is melted, there will probably be a lot of commuter trash along the roadside. Please wear a blaze orange vest, or something bright red/orange/lime so you will be visible. If you have a pokey stick, bring it along. A dowel, with a headless nail hammered into one end, and a plastic end cap on the other end makes a good pokey stick. If a lot of people show up, we can spread out and clean other trails in town, as long as we bring the trash to the Green by 4PM! Terrain can be a 1 to a 4, depending on where you decide to CITO, 5 if you fall in the water. No swimming allowed! Update 3/12/11: After the floods last week, we might have quite a bit more debris to clean up along the stream and roadside. Please let me know, by posting here, if you can attend, so I can let the town know approximately how many vests, gloves and bags to supply for us. Here is what the town is planning for the day: Grab a trash bag and join your friends and neighbors. Go out to your street, a nearby park, or any other location and pick up any trash you find along the way. Then bring it to the Town Hall and help create Mount Trashmore Let’s fill up our bags and together we can make a difference! 9am – Noon Pick up garbage bags, gloves & vests at Town Hall Green Noon – 4pm Drop off filled garbage bags at Town Hall Green (Please don’t overfill) Noon – 3pm Receive a coupon for free ice cream when dropping off trash 2pm – 4pm Watch construction of “Mount Trashmore” and Ice Cream Truck at the Green 4:45pm – 5pm Mount Trashmore transported to Transfer Station
