La chapelle a été bâtie de 1620 à 1656. La construction dura 30 ou
40 ans. Cet ermitage ne fut habité qu'une centaine d'années,
jusqu'à la Révolution française. La chapelle désaffectée et
l'ermitage déserté tombèrent peu à peu en ruines vers 1800 ou
1810.
On pense que le tremblement de terre de 1812 accéléra leur
destruction.
En 1912 au cours de l'été la chapelle s'écroula. La statue de St
Julien, récupérée dans les ruines par les habitants du
village,
est visible à l'église Notre-Dame de Bonaventure, à gauche de
l'autel. Le conseil municipal décida la restauration des ruines
de
la chapelle de St Julien et l'aménagement de ce site agréable qui
offre aux promeneurs une vue panoramique sur le Luberon et la
vallée de la Durance.
Cette restauration débuta en juin 1990, continua au printemps 1991,
puis en 1992. Encore aujourd’hui, elle continue d'être
restaurée.
Laissez votre voiture en PK puis montez vers le sommet du plateau
en suivant un vieux sentier. La cache se trouve sous une
pierre.
The chapel was built from 1620 to 1656. Construction lasted 30 or
40 years. This hermitage was inhabited a hundred years until
the
French Revolution. The disused chapel and hermitage deserted
gradually fell into ruin around 1800 or 1810. It is believed that
the
earthquake of 1812 hastened their destruction.
In 1912 during the summer the chapel collapsed. The statue of St
Julien, recovered in the ruins by the villagers, is visible
at
the Notre-Dame de Bonaventure, on the left of the altar. The
council decided to restore the ruins of the chapel of St. Julien
and
the development of this site which offers visitors pleasant
panoramic views over the Luberon and the Durance valley.
This restoration began in June 1990, continued in spring 1991 and
again in 1992. Even today, it continues to be restored.
Leave your car in PK then climb to the top of the hill following an
old trail. The cache is hidden under a stone.
