TRC, Cache to Eagle #10 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CP590: It looks like this spot will remain inaccessible for the foreseeable future. I spoke again with the Jones Beach Nature staff and they've agreed to let me place a new cache in the area of the new Nature & Energy Center down the road. Watch for that to debut soon. Thanks to all who found this cache over the last 10 years and left nice comments & favorite points!

Geocache Description:

Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that — on average — requires 167 service hours. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service.

This cache is part of a nationwide geocaching series called "Cache to Eagle" that showcases these special contributions. Building a Bird Blind among the sand dunes was the Eagle Project of Matt G. of Troop 96 in Wantagh. With the help of his troop and donations from local merchants, and the approval from the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center at Jones Beach State Park, they set pilings and built a three sided blind. Though signs ask you not to enter the dunes, you can visit the blind. But due to the sensitive nature of the dunes, please tread lightly around the plants and be careful of any nests. Better yet, just view it from afar, or look at the pictures!
Matt D. of Troop 239 in Seaford fixed up the butterfly garden here. With the help of 30 fellow Scouts & volunteers, they replaced fencing, added plants that would attract butterflies and fixed up the seashell walkway, after the garden was damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

You are looking for a small hidden container. It's OK to go around the barriers if the booth is unmanned. Make the first U-turn after the barriers to enter the Nature Center. Eisenhower Dollar for FTF!
