Geocache Description:

Downtown Cleveland, Georgia

The turn of the century, white, one story building with the blue shutters has a brick courtyard at the main entrance that connects to a long porch. It is situated in the oldest part of Cleveland where the trees are wide enough that two persons cannot touch fingers if they were hugging one from opposite sides and their roots run along the ground like rivulets of water from a shallow waterfall. This cache is across from the birthplace of the Cabbage Patch Kids, Babyland General Hospital. The Cabbage Patch Kids were created by Xavier Roberts while living in Helen, Ga., a little farther north of Cleveland. In 1978 Xavier and five friends renovated the L.G. Neal Clinic, a turn of the century medical facility, and opened the original Babyland General Hospital.

In 2006 plans were started for a new larger Babyland General and groundbreaking was celebrated May 3, 2007. The Grand Opening Celebration and Family Reunion of the new BabyLand General Hospital happened on May 8, 2010, in Cleveland, Georgia. Cabbage Patch Kid creator Xavier Roberts, along with Original Appalachian Artworks President Della Tolhurst, cut the ribbon signaling the Official Opening and Dedication of the new home of the Cabbage Patch Kids at 300 N.O.K. Drive.

This location has been sold and changed to an antique store. The cache IS NOT on the grounds, building, or vegetation on the old building side of the street. You can park in the small pull over area or the old parking lot across the street and below the old main entrance. This is a fairly busy road as a cut through to bypass the congestion at the square, so please be cautious if you have little ones with you.

The terrain rating is due to tripping hazards all around and the slope of the land. Happy caching.
