Ballyhalbert is a small village located on the east coast of
Northern Ireland, within the Ards Peninsula, County Down. It looks
out over the Irish Sea and the North Channel and on a clear day,
Scotland and the Isle of Man are visible.
Ballyhalbert Harbour is situated at Burr Point, the most
easterly point of Ireland and about 1km from the village. The
harbour mainly dries at low tide and is now used only for leisure
purposes and by the occasional small fishing vessel. The harbour
has a car park with toilets and slipway, it is an ideal put in for
canoeists, this has become a popular spot for water skiers. The
village has a sandy beach at the centre of a long bay. From here
you can paddle north towards Ballywalter or south towards
Portavogie. Just to the west of the harbour at Burr Point is Burial
Island, now a nesting site for terns but formerly a place of Danish
Burial.
This cache is 'attracted' to a very prominent item on the side
of the road. It can easily be approached either on foot or in a
wheelchair, but is VERY low down so from a wheelchair, a little
help may be required in order to retrieve it. EXTREME stealth is
required.
Please hold the hand of any children as there is plenty of
roadside parking, but no footpath near the cache. This is not a
terribly busy road much of the time, but be aware - muggles
about!
The main clue is in the title of this cache, but bear in mine
you are by the shore!
