This replica of a glass milk bottle has been a fixture in the
Town of Whately since 1926. It’s original location was west
of Route 5&10 across the highway from the Quon-Quont Farm
Certified Milk Bar(1926-1943), located at the intersection of Swamp
Road. The bottle was later moved to the east side of the road and
remained there until it’s journey to it’s present
location in 1995.
The bottle was built to a 20/1 scale. It is constructed of wood
framing, wire mesh, and 2 ½ inches of concrete plaster. Weighing an
estimated 6800 lbs, the bottle stands 16’-2” tall and
has a 7 ft. diameter at the base.
During the summer, ice cream was served from the dutch-door cut
in the side of the bottle. That tradition still continues today,
during the Historical Society’s warm weather events held on
the grounds.
