Geocache Description:

The cache is a small container.

The area:

This is the third of my series (Squipper in Oman 1 to 7) placed in my favourite locations of natural Oman. Nakhal Fort is one of the most spectacular forts in the world, dramatically located at the edge of the Jebel Akhdar Mountains in northwest Oman. Nakhal is famous for its beautiful oasis and mineral-laden hot springs that flow year round from clefts in the mountain rock. The entrance fee to the fort costs a mere 500bz (approx 80 pence) & is well worth a visit; some spectacular views from the top across the oasis.

More information on the fort can be found here:-

Directions & parking:

Travelling from Muscat, head West towards Sohar on the Qaboos/As Seeb St (01). At N 23° 40.019 E 057° 53.034 turn left & head South down the 13. (Note these Co-ords are approximate (taken from Google!). As you approach it, you’ll see Lulu’s Hypermarket to your right).
After approx 15-20 mins, you’ll pass a Shell garage on your left (which was my regular stop off point for a coffee). A further 5-10 mins past the garage turn left at the roundabout towards the village of Nakhal. Drive towards the village until you see the fort on your right hand side. Take a right turn off the main road once you are parallel with the fort & the car park is at the base of Nakhal Fort itself (parking is free).
