Geocache Description:

Cleveland Park Castle

Cleveland Park in central Le Mars was utilized for various recreational and sporting events, but there were no recreational opportunities for younger children and families. A volunteer committee put together a campaign and raised over $100,000 to pay for materials and the services of a design firm. The result was a 12,000 square foot playground "castle" for the children of Le Mars.

The children actually designed the entire facility during small sessions held at the local grade schools. The design firm facilitated the design process and coordinated the construction, which was done by area volunteers. More than 1,000 volunteers shared the work of the project -- from prep work to fund raising to the actually building.
