Geocache Description:

The Kaoota-Margate Tramway track.

A new walk from Kaoota to Lawless Rd along the old coal tramway.

To walk the entire track and back takes about 4hrs return and it's 12km long return. The cache is located roughly half-way and to the cache from either end it's about 2hrs return and about 6km. These times might be a bit conservative if you walk faster.

Here's the Kingborough Council website, go Recreation, Tracks and Trails, it's #19 (they don't permit hotlinks) (visit link) Not sure about those pictures on that pdf though, it's a fair bit narrower and can be a lot muddier.

It's a nice but often muddy bush walk with a gradual incline from the Margate end to Kaoota. Kaoota to Thomsons Creeks has more muddy patches.

Bicycles, Horses and walking are OK, but dogs are not allowed.

There is parking at both ends. Please park in the sign-posted areas, especially at the Margate end, there's about 200m of private road to walk or ride before you get to the start of track.
